Fluorescent Tube Light Disposal in Sun City Center, Florida

Many of our customers, particularly in the Sun City Center area or those in older homes are finding themselves with fluorescent bulbs that frequently stop functioning properly or switching to LED bulbs that are more energy efficient, brighter, and don’t require costly ballasts.

If you choose to start thinking about LED bulbs and want to disposal your old fluorescent Tube Lights or bulbs, it’s important to know a few things first.  Fluorescent tubes contain mercery, just like those thermometers that were once commonplace. That being the case, they cannot be placed in your trash or recycling bin and must be disposed of properly.  As a professional electrical company near Sun City area, we are required by EPA regulations (and want to keep our neighbors and environment safe and healthy!) to purchase, box, and mail out all bulbs through special recycling companies to be disposed of properly.

Advantages of LED fixtures over the Older Fluorescent Tubes

We recently sat down with Bryan to discuss the differences and advantages of LED fixtures over the older fluorescent tubes typically seen in garages, closets, and older kitchens.

“Well, these light fixtures could be in your garage or in your office. I tell a lot of the homeowners out there, I always install our products in my own home, even our office, before I put it in yours, because I just want to make sure that we’re putting in a good product.

Today we decided to try out these new LED tubes. Instead of changing out the entire light fixture, we’re just bypassing the bales and we’re actually putting in a 120V LED tube up in there and as you can see, from the difference of a florescent tube. Obviously, we’re just trying to go to a more energy efficient light. We’re trying to see how long these lights last for. Obviously, we are finding out that LED does not last as long as people predicted.

On average, you’re averaging about 3 to 5 years. You’re not getting these 10 years. If you see a box that says “45 Years” on it, make sure you read the hours on it. The hours typically say 50,000 hours and depending on how long you use that light for, you’ll probably get 3 to 5 years out of them.  I still tell my homeowners, in all cases, to go with LEDs.  They are the best product out there, hands-down.”

And certainly, consider the wonderful alternative that we’re using now to fluorescents – Call us to know more about LED bulb installation whenever you start thinking LED bulbs!

How To Hire A Licensed Electrician In Florida?

How does one go about becoming an electrician in Florida? The simple answer is to go to a trade school. There are three essential avenues for pursuing a career as a certified electrical contractor in Florida. You can either enter a college program, a union apprenticeship or take up independent training.

A  fundamental part of becoming a licensed electrician in Florida is highly dependent on the individual county or area where the electricians want to work in. Nonetheless, if you are an independent certified electrical contractor then you are not required to get a state-level electrical license (you would only require a country license).

Certified Electrical Contractor Florida

Meanwhile, all electricians in the state, both individuals & collectives, require a state-given general certification contractor license on top of their electrical licensing.

4 General Categories of Electrical Contractors In Florida

Electrical contractors for hire can just work in the region where they are authorized, instead of statewide. As mentioned above only electrical organizations need statewide certificates. Separately, circuit testers shouldn’t be enrolled with the state, simply in their district.

There are just two sorts of licenses for singular circuit repairmen in Florida: apprentice and expert. An electrician in Florida needs to function as an understudy to acquire understudy status, yet disciples themselves needn’t bother with a permit.

  1. Certified Electrician (EC): Certified contractors for hire can work anyplace in Florida.
  2. Certified Electrical Specialty Contractor (ES): Specialty Contractors, as the name suggests, represent considerable authority in a particular part of the field, for example, caution establishment and support.
  3. Enlisted Electrician (ER): Registered contractors for hire can just work in the province where they are authorized.
  4. Registered Electrical Specialty Contractor: Likewise, Registered Electrical Specialty

Why Do You Need To Hire A Licensed Electrician?

Managing & operating electricity and allowing strangers into your home is sensitive business. Hence, it is always a good idea to verify that the technicians coming into your home are well-trained and licensed to do the work they are assigned to in your area. It is also quite essential that the electrician in Florida is a certified electrical contractor who is up-to-date with code requirements & local laws.

How Can I Verify My Electrician’s License?

Fortunately, there are licensing associations that give this data. For instance, The Department of Business and Professional Regulation has an Electrical Contractors Licensing Board that “licenses and directs electrical and caution project workers to perform electrical and alert administrations in the state”. Indeed, even still, there are straightforward advances you can take to expand electrical security in your Florida home:

Stage 1: Check that the permit coordinates with the circuit tester’s name or then again if the permit is for a project worker, confirm the individual is part of the licensed electricians in Florida by the authorized organization by reaching them.

Stage 2: Ask for your electrical expert’s permit and utilize the number or name to confirm if an electrical technician is authorized to work locally. You can contact Florida’s Department of Business and Professional Regulation Electrical Contractors Licensing Board to do as such.

Stage 3: Request evidence of risk protection fills in too. Contact the insurance agency and request a check for an electrician in Florida.

Riverview Electrician – A day in the life

A day in the life…

Eliza

“What does your morning look like?”

“My day starts out around 7:20 or so. I start out loading up materials for the day’s jobs which goes pretty quick since my partner and I work really well together, and then we’re pretty much out the door. We do a lot of work in the Riverview area, so it’s I75, 41, 301 – one of the biggest parts of my day – figuring out the best way to get around traffic to Fishhawk – just kidding.”

“What type of work do you generally do?”

Umm, a little bit of everything. That’s what I like about working in electric, there’s a lot of variety. We do a lot of panel changes and disconnect changes and remodels, a lot. “

“Do you work mostly inside or outside?”

“About half and half. Boat docks, landscape lighting, panels, disconnects, that kind of thing, that’s outside. A lot of custom remodels – both inside and out.”

“Why did you decide to become an Electrician?”

“I worked as a CNA before and I loved it but a few years ago I decided I wanted to work with my hands. I’m a good problem solver, I like things done right the first time – not to blow my own horn. Electric’s not easy. But I love it. It was a great choice.”

“What’s it like being a woman in a male-dominated industry?”

“I like what I do. Everybody gets along really well and I’m one of the team. I think I get the respect I do because of my skills and my knowledge. I really think more women should do this. There are good opportunities that you don’t necessarily have in other careers and I basically have the same hours as my son in school, I get to spend the weekends with him…which is great for all parents here – moms, dads, whoever.”

How To Select The Best Exterior Light Fixtures?

Are you worried that your back porch looks dark &uninviting? Is your front doorway not as warm & welcoming as it should be? Worry no more, you can solve these issues with great external lights!

Updating your outside fixtures can liven up (and enlighten) your outdoor area and boost your curb appeal. Not sure how to go about doing that? Then here we are as the best electrician in the Wimauma, Florida area to help you!

Here are our top four things to consider before selecting the best exterior light fixtures for your home as an experienced Wimauma Electrical Services Provider. Good external lightings shouldhavethefollowingfourqualitiestomakethemgreatadditionstoyourhomethatwilltake your house’s look to the nextlevel!

Lighting Fixture Size

Exterior lighting fixtures can make or break your home’s look, hence you must be careful with all aspects of external lights. The primary thing to consider is the size of the light that you will install.

A good Wimauma Electrical Services Provider would recommend that you don’t go overboard with the size of your lights. For entryway fixtures, a good rule of thumb is to select a fixture that is approximately 1/3 or 1/4 the height of the front door.

Light Color & Style

Acrucialfactorthatyouneedtopayattentiontowardswhileselectingexteriorlightfixturesare the colors & style of the lights. A good Wimauma Electrical Services Provider would tell you to maintain your overall house aesthetic and not buy anything too adventurous.

Mount Placement Height

The mount placement of the lighting fixture holds critical importance towards getting the desired look, especially in places like Wimauma Florida. The majority of wall-placed light fixtures applications, lights that are eye-level are tastefully satisfying. This is about 66 to 72 inches above the floor for most front doors, entries, and garage-mounted lights.

Illumination Capacity

The goal of installing an exterior lighting fixture is to brighten a space without being overbearing. Therefore, to achieve this goal you need to measure the placement & illumination capacity of your light.

Any good Wimauma Electrical Services Provider would tell you to go for high-capacity lights to better illuminate your driveways/garages. For your porch, front/back door, etc. it is recommended to go for smaller and softer LED lights to create a cozy atmosphere.

One of the Easiest Safety Tips for Parents!

Want an easy way to keep your little ones away from outlets? Block them by placing furniture strategically! For example, placing your sofa or a side table in front of an outlet is pretty effective. (Remember that if you do use those outlets, be sure the furniture is not putting pressure on the plug or cord).

What is a Tamper Resistant Outlet?

Tamper Resistant Outlets have been required per National Electrical Code since 2008 – and for good reason! Can you relate to that terrifying image of your little one moving towards an outlet with a pointy object? If your home has tamper resistant outlets, you can breathe a bit easier.

So how do these work? Tamper resistant outlets contain shutters. The shutters remain closed if an object is inserted into only one side of the receptacle and open only when a 2 bladed or grounded plug is inserted. If you do have tamper resistant outlets, you may find it a bit tricky to plug things in at first. Make sure that you push the plug straight forward. If you are still having difficulty inserting the outlet, examine the plug itself, as that is most likely the issue.

We ALWAYS remind clients that even as products develop and make our lives and children safer, nothing is more effective than supervision!

Hurricane Season is once again upon us – let’s talk generators…

With so many choices, choosing a generator can be overwhelming. The most important factor is what capabilities you want to have in case of an outage.

Want to microwave some popcorn while you watch a movie? Maybe use a couple of lights and fans and a running refrigerator is all you need. If so, a small portable generator (3-4kw) is sufficient.

Maybe you need a bit more – the above and the use of a computer, more appliances and a small portable A/C/ unit? Then your best bet is a mid-sized portable generator 5-8kw) , which we generally recommend, sounds like it would fit the bill!

If you would like more information, feel free to give us a call and we can help you determine what the best choice is for you and your family!

Why I Became a Part of the BHE Family

My name is Bessie and I am the Administrative Specialist and Permitting Manager here at Bryan Hindman Electric. As a part of the BHE Family for the past couple of years, I wanted to share why I chose to work at BHE over several other companies and job offers.

I was impressed with their honesty and commitment to Family. However, let’s start at the beginning of my job search. I ran across BHE looking for a part time permit person. I knew all about permits from my previous job with a General Contractor in Port Charlotte. I was also looking for part time work so I could have less stress from the toxic roofing company environment I had been in when I first moved up here. Plus bonus going to $6 movies with my Sun City Center resident mother on Tuesday afternoons. Although I had several offers my first choice was BHE while waiting for them to call me I cancelled a prospective interview because I felt BHE was the right fit for me. Luckily they called me, and my position has evolved from part time to full time from just Permits to Billing, Inventory and Supplies as well. I also help with Marketing and anything else that comes my way. My position is always evolving and I like that it changes over time- never boring! BHE is still my first choice!
